I spent most of my early life as a professional photographer. Capturing and creating images both for myself and for clients. I guess I’ve always been a visual person. I see the world and want to express my pleasure in it by recording my version, my view of it. So much of Life is in the details all around us. The way a coffee cup sits on the counter, the way the sunlight streaks across the landscape, how people sit in a public place, the glory of fantastic architecture, whether it’s an abandoned restaurant, a country store, or an urban landscape. I see it and I want to interpret it. All these views, I’ve used and been inspired by in my writing. One of my first book editors said that they now understood how I crafted scenes in my novels, my use of descriptive text to make a reader ‘see’ what I wanted them to. Kinda makes sense. Since 2014, I’ve had an Instagram account where I put these ‘sketches’ up for later use. But now, in late 2025, social media has devolved into a sewer of false reality, AI generated lies, ridiculous self absorbed marketing and promotion and a medium that has done more harm to people’s psyche than any good intended to connect people. And for that reason, I stopped adding to my presence there. Instead, my writer’s visual diary will be here. Welcome. And enjoy.
